Kurt Rogers - Bio
Lead Guitarist & Harmony/Lead vocals
Darlene Marie & The Mustangs

I’ve been playing & singing music for as long as I can remember. My grandparents &
parents all sing & play instruments. I started out on piano when was about 8 years old.
Although piano lessons soon took a back seat to sports,
I started playing trombone when I was about 10. I continued to be involved with
concert & jazz band throughout high school, as well as chorus.
Near the end of high school, I also began to pick up guitar.

During junior college at Jefferson Community College, I became more serious
about playing & singing country music, and started/joined a band in Watertown, NY
called Amarillo. I played lead guitar and sang harmony with this band for 2 years
until I moved away in 1999 to attended Binghamton University (BU) for my
undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering (B.S.E.E).

At BU, I switched my focus back to playing trombone, and joined the Harpur Jazz Ensemble.
I also sang with an A Cappella group for one semester. After completing my B.S.E.E degree
in 2001, I once again moved my musical focus back to guitar, and attended the
Musicians Institute in Hollywood California (formally Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT)).

Nearly broke after 4 months in LA, I returned to NY to focus on my engineering career.
I accepted a position with IBM in Endicott, NY. Within a year, I returned part time to BU
to complete my Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (M.S.E.E). Before I could finish my degree,
I was laid off from IBM, but soon after accepted a position with Lockheed Martin in Owego, NY.
I worked there for 3 years, and completed my MSEE degree.

In January 2007, I accepted a new position as an instructor in the Electrical & Computer
Engineering Dept. at Binghamton University. This new career path presented me with a much more
flexible schedule, so I once again began playing guitar and looking to join a band.
I met Darlene Marie and the Mustangs when I answered an ad they had posted at the local music store in Vestal.
So after nearly a 6 year hiatus from playing professionally, I have finally returned to the stage as
lead/rhythm guitarist and harmony/(lead) vocalist for the Mustangs.
